Lorenzo Berardinetti was elected to the Ontario legislature in 2003 and re-elected in 2007. In 2004, he introduced a private member’s bill to outlaw “gender-based pricing,” whereby retailers charge women more for products and services such as clothing, dry cleaning and haircuts, compared to men. Berardinetti was Deputy Whip from 2003-2006. In December 2006, he was appointed chair of the Standing Committee on Justice Policy. He has also served as chair of the Standing Committee on Government Agencies. He is a lawyer who was born in Toronto and raised in Scarborough.
Berardinetti was dedicated to public service at a young age, volunteering and participating in clubs and associations. After completing his LLB at the University of Windsor and being called to the bar, Berardinetti was elected to Scarborough Council in 1988. He was re-elected in 1991 and 1994, and was elected to the new City of Toronto Council in 1997. As a Toronto councillor, Berardinetti made his mark as chair of the Administration Committee, which was given the difficult task of setting the blueprint for transforming six municipalities and one regional government into a single city.
