Treasury Board/Management Board of Cabinet
This is a busy committee that provides advice on how the government manages its money, people and other resources.
The committee authorizes annual spending plans submitted by ministries and makes sure they stick to them. It approves the government's overall human resource and information technology plans and also makes decisions about government land and buildings.
Legislation and Regulations
Often called "Legs and Regs," this committee makes sure the government creates strong laws and regulations that protect us, without unnecessary red tape.
Before a government bill is introduced to the legislature, this committee makes sure the legislation is consistent with the government's agenda.
Once a bill is passed and becomes law, this committee reviews the regulations that affect how legislation is implemented. Many of these regulations help protect our health and safety.
Cabinet Committee on Poverty Reduction
Ontario needs everyone at his or her best to truly succeed as an economy and society. That means creating opportunity for all, not just some. It means ensuring every Ontarian can contribute to and benefit from Ontario's prosperity.
This is a new committee. Members will work to develop poverty indicators and targets, as well as a focused strategy for reducing child poverty and lifting more families out of poverty. The goal of this committee is to make progress in the fight against poverty over the course of the government's four-year mandate.
Committee on Emergency Management
Keeping our people and communities safe and secure is an important responsibility of government. Emergencies can happen at any time, in any place.
To ensure Ontario is prepared for these situations, this committee provides advice on provincial emergency planning efforts and guides emergency preparedness decisions. It also studies best practices in other places to ensure the most comprehensive and coordinated approach at home.
Priorities and Planning Board
Often called "P and P," this committee will be called as needed to deal with emerging challenges. Membership will be determined on an issue-by-issue basis.
Policy Committees
Policy committees review and make recommendations to Cabinet on the policies and programs government delivers. They help ministries work together on broad government projects, and they ensure all Ontarians have a voice in the decisions that affect their lives.
Health, Education and Social
Ontarians often measure progress by how we treat those who have fallen behind or fallen ill, how we welcome newcomers, and how we educate our next generation.
Improving the health, knowledge and skills of our people is the best way for Ontario to compete globally.
Members of this committee will help the government ensure that Ontario capitalizes on the knowledge, skills and diversity of its people. They will also help the government plan for the needs of an aging population and explore opportunities to help Ontarians enjoy longer, healthier lives.
Economic, Environmental and Resources
Ontarians understand the challenges we face in a competitive global marketplace, and they are eager to seize the opportunities that lay before them. Our province is blessed with unmatched natural beauty and rich natural resources.
As the global environment changes, issues that affect our economy and communities need to be addressed. This committee will help the shape the government's response to new challenges and make sure that our natural assets are protected for future generations.
Justice, Intergovernmental and Aboriginal Affairs
This committee has a broad mandate, aimed at ensuring fairness and justice for all.
It believes that Ontarians deserve to feel safe and be safe. That means being tough on crime and tough on the causes of crime, while providing justice for everyone.
Committee members will also play an important role ensuring that Ontarians have fair access to services provided by the federal government. Members will help build on the progress government has made with municipalities.
Fairness for all also means building a stronger, more positive relationship with Ontario's First Nations. This committee will help guide the government's efforts to improve quality of life and expand economic opportunities for all Aboriginal peoples.
