I thought I'd take just a couple of minutes to tell you about some of the latest steps that we're taking in our great plan, here in Ontario, that will fight climate change and create jobs.
I thought I'd take just a couple of minutes to tell you about some of the latest steps that we're taking in our great plan, here in Ontario, that will fight climate change and create jobs.
Everybody knows about climate change and the need for us to do something and I want to tell you about the latest steps that we're taking.
First of all, we've announced a $17.5 billion investment in public transit.
It's the biggest investment of its kind in the history of this country.
It's going take hundreds of thousands of cars, in fact, 300 million car trips off the roads.
It's going to be good for the air.
It's going to be good, because it's going to create all kinds of jobs when we're building this public transit.
And it's going to strengthen our economy, because we're losing money, because people are trapped in gridlock.
But I think best of all, it'll be great for our families, who are suffering from family time famine trying to get back home as soon as you can at the end of the day, for example, but you feel so desperate trapped in gridlock.
The second thing that we're doing is we just announced a $650 million fund, what we're calling a Next Generation Jobs Fund and that's all about trying to secure new investment here in Ontario.
That's going to be devoted to green cars, cleaner fuels, or cleaner technologies.
We want to develop the kinds of solutions here in Ontario that we can sell to the rest of the world to attract great jobs here at high pay.
We're going to model this on something that we did with the auto fund, which landed us, by the way, $7 billion worth of new investment.
We've done this before, so we know how to do it again.
The latest step in our plan to fight climate change and create jobs has everything to do with you.
As of July 20, there's going to be some great new rebates and tax incentives for you to go out there and buy energy efficient appliances in the home, or to go out and have an energy retrofit done to your home.
Just to give you one example, if you go out and buy a $4,000 dollar new high-efficiency furnace, you get can up to $1,500 back by way of rebate. Now that's pretty good.
There's never been more green, in going green, in the province of Ontario then there is today.
So take advantage of these offers, do something good for your home, reducing energy costs, do something good for the environment, do something good for the province.

The purpose of our fourth budget was the same as each of the three previous budgets. It was to strengthen Ontario by strengthening Ontarians.

We are proud of the increases we've made to the minimum wage, and of course we must continue to grow it. We think the best approach is steady, gradual but sure increases.
