What is the single sales tax?
Two sales taxes merged into one. Right now, you go shopping, you pay 5% GST and 8% PST. Starting July 1, 2010, you'll only see the single sales tax – 13%.
Benefits
The single sales tax will make Ontario more attractive to businesses.
By merging two taxes with different rules into one sales tax with one set of rules, we’re reducing red tape – and creating new incentives for Ontario businesses to grow and for new businesses to locate here.
Exemptions
Point-of-sale rebates will be introduced for children’s clothing, diapers, car seats, and books. Learn more about point-of-sale exemptions.
