Deputy Premier and Minister of Energy and Infrastructure George Smitherman took part in the Firefigther Memorial at Queen's Park. Joined by Lieutenant Governor David Onley, Minister of Labour Peter Fonseca, Brant MPP Dave Levac and Ontario Fire Marshall Pat Burke, among other fire safety officials. This year, seventeen names were added to the memorial, bringing the total to five hundred. The weather was somber yet the event carried on in the spirit of memorial.

There was a fantastic turnout from the Chinese-Canadian community as the Premier was on hand for a raising of the Chinese flag at Queen's Park. This event was in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the People's Republic of China. The Premier was joined by Consul General of China, Mme. Zhu Taoying and Minister of Economic Development and Trade Sandra Pupatello. It was one of the best crowds Queen's Park has seen all year.

On this beautiful September day, the Premier and members of caucus traveled by Northland Rail to Earlton, Ontario to enjoy the International Plow Match. The Premier, OPP Chief Fantino, and others spoke to the crowd, followed by the Premier climbing into a tractor and ploughing through the furrow himself. Next year's Plow Match is to be held in St. Thomas, Ontario.
