Kathleen Wynne was in Ottawa today to celebrate progress on the city's
Confederation Line LRT, which will help relieve congestion, increase
productivity and create up to 20,000 jobs.
The Premier, along with federal and municipal representatives, toured a
portion of the 2.5 kilometre underground tunnel. More than 50 per cent of the
tunnel has already been excavated. Ontario is investing up to $600 million -
the largest provincial transit investment in the City of Ottawa's history - to
help support the project.
in public transit and supporting jobs is part of the government's comprehensive plan for a
strong Ontario that builds people's talent and skills, builds a more dynamic
business environment, builds new infrastructure and builds a more secure
retirement for Ontarians.
I am proud that Ontario is investing up to $600 million in this project. Investments like these help our businesses grow, improve people’s quality of life and help us build a more sustainable future.
Public transit is vital in managing congestion, curbing emissions and building communities across our province. Our government is pleased to help build transit that will keep Ottawa moving and growing for years to come.
A strong public transit system is part of what makes Ottawa a world-class city with a high quality of life. I am happy that we are continuing to improve it even more with the Confederation Line. It is exciting to see how much work has already been completed.
The Confederation Line LRT will make it easier for everyone to get in and out of Ottawa’s downtown core, so they can spend less time in traffic and more time with their families. It is great to see how much progress has already been made, and I look forward to seeing it in action in 2016.
I am proud that our government is supporting this very worthy project, and I am happy to see it is on track for an on-time completion. Once it is up and running, the Confederation Line will help ease congestion, get more cars off the road and improve the quality of life in Ottawa.
Investing in local priorities like the Confederation LRT Line continues to strengthen Ottawa’s economy by creating jobs, helping our city grow and making it easier for businesses and residents to get around. A strong public transit system helps protect our environment and keep our city beautiful.
I am pleased that the Confederation Line LRT project is creating approximately 20,000 jobs in our region. Infrastructure investments like the LRT are creating valuable jobs for today and tomorrow, and setting the stage for Ottawa’s future success.
